Grandin Press

Grandin Press is a small, local publisher specializing in books by and about former leaders in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They had a basic ‘business card’ website that got them off the ground, but wanted to start selling books online. They came to us looking for a Magento solution, but didn’t have the funds at the time to get a full blown, custom design. This is a common scenario and we’ve dealt with this on other platforms. We tell clients to look for a template, either free or for a fee, and then we implement it and do slight modifications.

Luckily, Grandin Press picked a great template to begin with. We’ve found that template builders can sometimes fall short when the going gets rough, but this template performs well under heavy loads and accounts for all page views. Also, we’ve found that templates can quickly become out of date with the newer versions of Magento so it’s important to make sure a template is compatible with your version of Magento.

The client liked the template so much that the only thing we did was add the ‘Stir the Soul’ text in the header and change their logo. The template had a custom homepage slider built in that is easy to manage. One bonus is that the clients products fit well with the template which is something to consider when buying or design your online store. The template also included JavaScript tabs on the product page. Usually we install the EasyTabs extension, but we didn’t have to in this case.
